Russia Tests New Nuclear-Powered Missile with Long-Range Capability
Russia has tested a new nuclear-powered cruise missile called Burevestnik, which can carry nuclear weapons. The missile flew around 14,000 kilometers and stayed in the air for about 15 hours during the test.
President Vladimir Putin and top general Valery Gerasimov confirmed the test and said the country is now preparing to build the facilities needed to deploy this missile. The Burevestnik is said to have an almost unlimited range and can avoid current missile defense systems, making it one of Russia’s most advanced weapons.
Experts, however, have warned about safety risks since the missile uses a nuclear reactor for power. There are also doubts about how ready it is for regular use.
The test happened while tensions between Russia and Western countries remain high because of the war in Ukraine. It shows Russia’s effort to increase its military strength and global influence.
Impact:
The missile test might increase global security worries and could lead to more competition between major powers to develop stronger weapons and defense systems.
